OVERVIEW

Mighty Studios collaborated with the creators of Nocturne to develop a new sound machine that offers users more precise control over their sleep environment. The Mighty team managed the industrial design, mechanical engineering, prototyping, brand identity, product packaging, and guided the product through to volume manufacturing. The focus was on blending a modern look with functional control, an intuitive user experience, and manufacturing simplicity.

INSIGHTS

The main design challenge was to create a form that feels both calming and purposeful – something that blends seamlessly into a bedroom while conveying precision and quality. We tested various enclosures and control layouts, focusing on user interaction with minimal distractions like knobs, buttons, and materials. We also prioritized optimal internal acoustics, airflow, and component placement to ensure peak performance. The mechanical engineering phase addressed vibration isolation, speaker placement, and durability under repeated use. Meanwhile, prototyping allowed us to evaluate tactile feedback, knurling, material finishes, and assembly tolerances.
The brand identity was designed to reflect serenity, control, and modern craftsmanship. The packaging was also created not just to protect but to communicate—featuring simple unboxing experiences, soothing visuals, clear instructions, and eco-friendly materials. Throughout the process, manufacturability (DFM) considerations were included to ensure a smooth transition to suppliers. Material selection, tooling strategies, and cost considerations were evaluated early on to guarantee the final product could scale without sacrificing the design’s original intent or quality.
The Nocturne sound machine has successfully launched on Kickstarter, drawing excitement from backers who appreciate its sleek design, user-friendly controls, and thoughtful interface. It stands out in a competitive market by offering users both calming aesthetics and precise control over sound and light – something we believe only results from deeply integrated design and engineering.
